The present invention is to enable a driver to maintain, or facilitate, the driver's cognizance of a road environment in which a vehicle is traveling in an automated drive mode. This driver monitoring device is provided with: a drive mode determination unit that determines whether or not the drive mode of a vehicle is in an automated drive mode; an object detection unit that, when the drive mode is in the automated drive mode, detects an object existing within a prescribed range from the vehicle on the basis of a road environment in which the vehicle is traveling; a request signal generation unit that generates a request signal to request output of a query concerning the object to the driver; and a request signal output unit that outputs the request signal.
