The polarization plane of the pulsed light input to the spatial light modulator 14 is tilted with respect to the polarization direction in which the spatial light modulator 14 has a modulation action. The spatial light modulator 14 causes a time difference between the first polarization component of the pulsed light along the polarization direction and the second polarization component of the pulsed light that intersects the first polarization component. As a result, a pulsed light generation device that can easily suppress the variation in the time difference between the two pulsed light components is realized.
