PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce high quality bio-oil which is a liquid component having a small oxygen content, by decomposing and reducing a material derived from biomass without coexistence of a reducing compound such as hydrogen.SOLUTION: In a production method of bio-oil, direct-reduced iron (Fe and/or FeO), a material derived from biomass and water are supplied into a reactor at 200-700°C and brought into contact with each other, as much as 0.1-100 pts.mass (in terms of a conversion value at 25°C) water to the 1 pt.mass (in terms of dry mass) material derived from biomass.SELECTED DRAWING: None
