A system for detecting a disease agent in a sample derived from a patient biofluid may comprise a receiver coupled to a communication network and a controller coupled to the receiver. The reference spectral components may comprise one or more pathogen characteristics associated with sepsis. The one or more sample spectral components may be classified as pathogenic using the reference spectral models. Pathogen data may be generated using the classified sample spectral components.
