The present invention relates to a method for tracking the use of a pulse oximeter through a network system comprising: loading patient information with the corresponding pulse oximeter identification data on a network server; connect the pulse oximeter to a patient monitoring device; capture the connected pulse oximeter identification data and status data through the patient monitoring device; capture and store pulse oximeter data using the connected pulse oximeter; transmit the captured pulse oximeter data, captured pulse oximeter identification data, and captured status data to the network server; correlate the transmitted pulse oximeter identification data with the loaded pulse oximeter identification data stored on the network server; and associate the transmitted pulse oximeter data with patient information.
