self-cleaning depolluting paint, method for forming a self-cleaning depolluting coating on a substrate and substrate having a coating system applied thereto. "self-cleaning depolluting coating compositions comprising an organic binder having photocatalytic titanium dioxide particles dispersed therein are described. substantially in anatase form having an average micelle size between about 1 nm and about 150 nm and preferably having photocatalytic activity in the presence of visible light. Advantageously, the coatings of the invention do not require pre-activation to achieve high level of initial photocatalytic activity against air pollutants such as nox compounds.
