The method for geographical prospecting of the present invention relates to a calculated vertical velocity sensor signal determined from a recorded pressure sensor signal (11). A constructed vertical velocity sensor signal is determined as a linear combination of the calculated vertical velocity sensor signal and a recorded vertical velocity sensor signal in data from dual sensor seismic tape units by use of a coefficient of mixture as a proportionality constant (12). an upward pressure wave field component is determined as half of a difference in the recorded pressure sensor signal and the constructed vertical velocity sensor signal as a function of the mixing coefficient (13). An error in the upward pressure wave field component is determined by error propagation in terms of the recorded pressure sensor signal and the constructed vertical velocity sensor signal (14). a mixture coefficient value is determined which minimizes the error in the upward pressure wave field component (15).
