sol-gel method of production of carbon, metal and metalloid doped alpha alumina powder and its use in the manufacture of tablets suitable for applications in tld and osld dosimeters. The present invention relates to a method of manufacturing alpha alumina powder (α-a1203) by chemical processing (sol-gel process) in an alcoholic medium of a transition alumina (γ-al ~ 2 ~ o ~ 3 ~) which is suitably additive with carbon, metals (e.g. mg, ca, cr, ni, mo and fe) and metalloid (e.g. si) to give a powder with excellent pressing and sintering behavior at temperatures between 1600 and 1770 198 c, under a reducing atmosphere, preferably hydrogen, in a short period of time, preferably between 2 and 4 h, having such a high content (preferably 242 99.94 wt%) expressed as 244 - al ~ 2 ~ o ~ 3 ~ and other elements chemically mixed at a molecular level with lower total contents (preferably 243 0.06% by weight) of the oxides of the above elements (mgo, cao, cr ~ 2 ~ ~ 3 ~, nio, moo ~ 2 ~, fe ~ 2 ~ o ~ 3 ~ and sodium ~ 2 ~), so that said powder is suitable for making tablets with characteristics of shape and size as well as with luminescent properties applicable in the manufacture of tld and osld dosimeters, suitable for ionizing radiation dosimetry.
