Ni-Ti-Si alloy exhibits increased phase transition temperatures between high-temperature (austenitic) and low-temperature (martensitic) structures compared to binary Ni-Ti alloy. According to the invention, these phase transitions can be adjusted by changing the amount of silicon added. The phase transition temperatures determine the shape-memory attributes, superelasticity and shape memory effect. This can be expected to have practical applications in temperature sensors used in the power, automotive and aerospace industries.
