A crucible and a cup for welding rails with a reaction mixture ignited by means of a burner, containing a cup, an igniting core and a crucible. The igniting core is a mixture of material that can be ignited by an oxygen-propane gas burner to preheat the rails and form an ignition reaction mixture for the aluminothermic reaction. The cup is mounted above the crucible and is designed to hold the igniting core in the desired position. The hole for placing the core passes through the cup from the first surface to the second surface. The igniting core is installed inside the hole to accommodate the core so that the molten igniting core can flow into the reaction chamber of the crucible. The reaction cavity is a vessel in the crucible, which serves as a temporary holder of the material for connecting the rails involved in the aluminothermic reaction. The material intended to connect the rails melts and flows to the joint when the aluminothermic reaction reaches the desired phase.
