This invention relates to cyclic peptides comprising the amino acid sequence of rat MOG38-55, wherein S at position 42 is substituted by a natural or unnatural amino acid conjugated with mannan or mannose. Conjugation is possible through the (KG)5 sequence where side chain amino group of Lys in (KG)5 is forming Schiff base with the aldehyde groups of oxidized mannan or mannose. Furthermore, this invention relates to cyclic peptides comprising the amino acid sequence of human MOG38-55, wherein Ρ at position 42 is substituted by a natural or unnatural amino acid conjugated with mannan or mannose. Similarly conjugation is carried out through the (KG)5 sequence where side chain amino group of Lys in (KG)5 is forming Schiff base with the aldehyde groups of oxidized mannan or mannose. This invention relates to the use of the above cyclic peptides and methods in regulating experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE) and multiple sclerosis.
