The present invention aims to provide a process for increasing the sensitivity of reduced gas sensors based on nanowires, nanoparticles or micro particles of metal oxides, which consists of subjecting the same to a heat treatment under reducing atmosphere to generate vacancies of oxygen on the surface thereof, changing its channel of electrical conduction from the nucleus to the shell.
