This method for controlling a hybrid vehicle includes a rotational-speed-controlling torque calculation step for calculating a torque command value on the basis of a rotational speed command value for an electrical generator and a rotational speed detection value of the electrical generator, and an electrical generator control step for controlling the electrical generator in accordance with the torque command value. In the rotational-speed-controlling torque calculation step, a basic torque command value that causes a torque response of the electrical generator to coincide with a preset model response is calculated using a model matching compensator, on the basis of the rotational speed command value and a value obtained by subjecting the rotational speed detection value to a filtering process with a low pass filter. A disturbance torque inputted to a motive power transmission system of the electrical generator is calculated on the basis of the rotational speed detection value, using a disturbance observer including a transfer function comprising a disturbance observer filter and a reverse system of a control target model patterned after the motive power transmission system. Furthermore, the torque command value is calculated on the basis of the basic torque command value and the disturbance torque. A relative order of the disturbance observer filter is set so that a relative order of the transfer function is at least 1.
