The electrolyzer (1) for the electrochemical preparation of ferrates consists of an alloy anode (4) which is located in the center of the electrolyzer (1) and the iron cathodes (2). The alloy anode is composed of Si and Al activating additives in an amount of up to 12 % by weight of Si, up to 12 % by weight of Al and the rest to 100 % by weight forms Fe. A diaphragm (3) or a cationically conductive membrane is disposed between the anode (4) and the cathodes (2) to separate the anode space containing the anolyte (5) from the cathode space containing the catholyte (6). An aqueous sodium hydroxide solution having a concentration of 30 to 50 % by weight is used as the electrolyte or a mixture of potassium hydroxide and sodium is used.
