A method for reducing distortion in an ultrasonic audio system, comprising: receiving a first audio signal, in which the first audio signal received represents the audio content that will be played using the ultrasonic audio system; calculate a first error function for the ultrasonic audio system, the first error function comprising H (x1) 2 + x1 2, where x1 is the first audio signal received and H (x1) is a Hilbert transform of the first audio signal received; and transforming the first audio signal received into a first preconditioned audio signal by combining an additive inversion of the first error function with the first audio signal received.
