Medical device system for use in the treatment of an abscess cavity of a mammal, said device system comprising: (a) a plug comprising a disc portion and multiple legs attached to said disc portion, said disc portion being and said legs configured for implantation in the abscess cavity, wherein said disc portion and said legs are made of solid matrix biocompatible filling material, and (b) a therapeutic agent, wherein the therapeutic agent is attached to the solid matrix biocompatible filling material.
