Process for obtaining a mixture of esters, in which a mixture of use containing n-butene, whose composition is modified over time, is subjected to a first oligomerization under obtaining an oligomer, and at least a part of the butene oligomers contained in the oligomer are hydroformylated in a hydroformylation to give aldehydes, of which at least a part is hydrogenated by partial hydrogenation in a mixture of alcohols, which is then transformed into the mixture of esters, and in which it determines an approximation of the actual viscosity of the ester mixture, characterized in that, according to the determined approximation of the actual viscosity of the ester mixture, ethene oligomers are selectively added to the butene to hydroformillary oligomers, which are obtained by subjecting a mixture of n-butene-free use, containing ethene, to a second oligomerization carried out separately from the first oligomerization.
