Use of magnesium stearate in powder formulations for inhalation comprising alpha-lactose monohydrated carrier particles and an active ingredient carrying a hydrolysis group selected from the group consisting of carbonate, carbamate and ester, to inhibit or reduce chemical degradation of said active ingredient, in which the carrier particles have a mass diameter between 80 and 500 microns and where magnesium stearate is present in an amount between 0.05 and 1.5% based on the total weight of the carrier and covers the surface of the carrier particles to a degree greater than 60%.
