A method of selecting a treatment for a subject, the method comprising: determining a level of soluble ST2 in a biological sample of a subject; compare the level of soluble ST2 in the biological sample with a reference level of soluble ST2; identify a subject that has a high level of soluble ST2 in the biological sample compared to the reference level of soluble ST2 with an improved prognosis of treatment with an implanted cardiac defibrillator device (ICD) or a cardiac resynchronization treatment device (CRT ); and select the treatment with an ICD or CRT device for the identified subject.
