A method (900) that segments or concatenates the service data units, SDUs, radio link control, RLC, into protocol data units, PDUs, RLC, comprising: receiving (902) a first RLC SDU and a second RLC SDU; dividing (904) the first RLC SDU into a first RLC PDU and a second RLC PDU, and the second RLC SDU into a third RLC PDU and a fourth RLC PDU, wherein the second RLC PDU and the fourth RLC PDU are limited to a maximum size corresponding to a size of a length indicator field, LI, the LI field being associated with the second RLC PDU and the fourth RLC PDU; setting (906) the LI field in the second RLC PDU and the fourth RLC PDU to indicate the size of the information contained in the second RLC PDU and the fourth RLC PDU; concatenate (908) the second RLC PDU with the third RLC PDU to form a concatenated RLC PDU; the LI field of the concatenated RLC PDU indicating the boundary between the second RLC PDU and the third RLC PDU; and sending (910) the first RLC PDU, the concatenated RLC PDU, and the fourth RLC PDU, wherein the first RLC PDU and the third RLC PDU are not limited by the maximum size.
