A method comprising: opening a web account or a social network account for a digital video recorder belonging to a security system; the sending by a user device (54) of an online dialog message requesting information from the digital video recorder using an online dialog server (50) of the web account or the social network account; the reception by the digital video recorder of the online dialogue message via the online dialog server; the matching, by a messaging processor of the digital video recorder, of the content of the dialog message in line with the contents of a message table in order to retrieve a predetermined instruction; and the automatic execution, by the digital video recorder, of the predetermined instruction, as well as the response to the dialogue message in line with the requested information.
