The present invention relates to a method of processing crude oil, comprising subjecting crude oil to crude oil distillation to produce a gases fraction, resid and at least one of kerosene or gasoil; subjecting resid to resid upgrading to produce at least liquefied petroleum gas, light distillate, middle distillate, or combinations thereof; contacting at least some of the middle distillate produced by the resid upgrading and the kerosene and/or gasoil produced by crude oil distillation with hydrogen in the presence of a catalyst under reaction conditions sufficient to produce at least some liquefied petroleum gas and refinery derived light-distillate; wherein the resid upgrading comprises: separating the resid from crude oil distillation into vacuum resid and vacuum gasoil; subjecting the vacuum resid to vacuum resid hydrocracking to produce the middle distillate, LPG, heavy distillate, or combinations thereof; subjecting the vacuum gasoil and the heavy distillate produced by vacuum resid hydrocracking to vacuum gasoil hydrocracking to produce additional LPG, additional middle distillate, and additional light distillate.
