A method and system for increasing safety in a boarding area is describedherein. In anembodiment the method includes: dividing the boarding area of the transportmeans into atleast two gates; determining a specified number of persons in a gate for acurrent boardingoperation; permitting entrance into the gate via at least one separatingdevice connectedwith the control system; and assigning, for the current boarding operation,the persons inthe gate to the arriving transport means. In an embodiment, once the number ofpersons inthe gate or a specified timer may determine when the persons in the gate arerequested toboard.
