A method for the generating grinding of a gear wheel workpiece (W1) using adressable worm grinding wheel (2), wherein, during the generating grinding,theworm grinding wheel (2) is rotationally driven about a tool axis of rotation(B) andthe gear wheel workpiece (W1) is rotationally driven about a workpiece axis ofrotation (C), and relative movements are executed between the worm grindingwheel (2) and the gear wheel workpiece (W1), and wherein after the executionof adressing procedure of the worm grinding wheel (2), which is carried out bymeansof a rotationally-drivable dressing unit (4), the following steps are carriedout:- executing a relative shift movement between the worm grinding wheel (2) andthe gear wheel workpiece (W1) parallel to the tool axis of rotation (B),- executing an axially-parallel relative movement between the worm grindingwheel (2) and the gear wheel workpiece (W1) in parallel or diagonally to theworkpiece axis of rotation (C),wherein a ratio between the shift movement and the axially-parallel relativemovement is specified, which is variable.
