The invention relates to a device for characterising the soil properties of agricultural land, comprising: measurement elements (1) that can be buried in the soil; and an external processing and control unit (12) radio-linked to the measurement elements (1), comprising at least one database with crop growth models and climate variables. Each of the measurement elements (1) comprises a casing (2) housing: sensors (5) for determining the physico-chemical variables of the soil; a data-processing and -storage unit (6) for collecting the variables determined; a wireless transmission unit (7) linked to the processing and storage unit (6); transmission antennas (8) linked to the wireless transmission unit (7), for transmitting the determined variables; and a power source (11). The measurement elements (1) include inertial sensors (9) and a GPS unit.
