The present invention relates generally to methods of use and compositions useful for treating skin. The composition includes a combination of saccharide isomerate extract, Myrothamnus flabellifolia extract, algae extract, mugwort (Artemisia vulgaris) extract, and [6]-paradol. This combination can be used to create topical skin compositions that reduces erythema, cools the skin, inhibits nitric oxide synthase, decreases TNF-a production, and increases the production of occludin-1.
