SOLAR-HEATED SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR DRYING SLUDGE

A solar energy collector system heats fluid using sunlight, and that heated water is supplied to a heating system of piping in the bed of a sewage drying system that heats an upward concrete or coated concrete drying surface of the bed to a temperature of about 205° F. The drying bed has a loading area onto which sludge is deposited for drying. A sludge turning and moving apparatus passes through the sludge as it is dried, and moves the portion of the sludge on or adjacent the upper heated surface of the drying bed upward and in a processing direction so that the sludge is heated, dried and moved along the drying bed until it is offloaded at an end opposite to the loading area. The water content of the resulting sludge is reduced to 10% or less of its volume by the solar powered drying process.
