By use of physical extraction utilising gravity and magnetic separation post-treatment of crushing the raw rock material, refined vanadium pentoxide can be added to composted material to increase the efficacy of the product for plant uptake. Due to its many valences the extracted material has many uses such as fertiliser, vanadium redox battery (VRB) products, metal hardening, medical applications (diabetes and cardiovascular) and as an industrial catalyst. Vanadium is one of the essential micronutrients that acts as a catalyst required by plants and symbiotic bacteria in order to make nitrogen plant-available.
