The purpose of the present invention is to find a novel composition that inhibits nerve cell death, particularly retinal nerve cell death, and has a retinal nerve cell protective effect and an optic nerve protective effect. A composition containing a bilberry fruit product and a pine bark product substantially inhibits nerve cell death induced by various causes. Thus, a composition containing a bilberry fruit product and a pine bark product, by substantially inhibiting nerve cell death and particularly retinal nerve cell death, is expected to be useful as a retinal nerve cell protective composition or an optic nerve protective composition.
