An oscillator circuit (501) has tank circuit terminals for coupling to a tank circuit. A microelectromechanical system (MEMS) resonator (100) serves as a tank circuit. The MEMS resonator (100) is coupled to the oscillator circuit (501) using a transformer (620) with a primary coil (621) coupled to the tank circuit terminals and a secondary coil (622) coupled to MEMS resonator terminals (109, 110). The transformer (620) has a turns ratio of N:1, and N is greater than 1.
