Disclosed is a composite cable for a variable frequency propulsion system for ships and offshore platforms, comprising multiple cores, an optical cable (5), a composite water-resistant structure, a shielding armor layer, a fire-barrier layer (12) and an outer sheath (13), wherein the multiple cores comprise a main insulation core (1) and a neutral core (2); a crosslinked polyethylene insulation layer (21) is extruded outside the neutral core (2); a composite insulation layer and a woven metal shielding layer (44) are successively wrapped around the main insulation core (1); a gap between the main insulation core (1) and the neutral core (2) is internally provided with the optical cable (5) and a flame-retardant PP rope (6); the composite water-resistant structure comprises water-resistant grease (7) and a water-resistant wrapping belt (8); the water-resistant wrapping belt (8) is wrapped around the shielding armor layer, the fire-barrier layer (12) and the outer sheath (13) in sequence. The composite cable for the variable frequency propulsion system can enhance a signal monitoring function and is free from electromagnetic interference, and has a better tolerance against variable frequency high-order harmonic voltage impacts. The multi-layer shielding system can better resist external and its own signal interference, and has a better performance in terms of tension, water and moisture resistance, and high and low temperature resistance.
