A low emission and environmentally friendly switcher power source of a dual diesel generator set, comprising a diesel generator set 1 having a relatively low power, a diesel generator set 2 having a relatively high power, a traction converter, and a locomotive power battery system. Alternating currents (AC) from two diesel generator sets are rectified by means of an AC/direct current (DC) conversion module in the traction converter and filtered by means of the supporting capacity into DCs. Two poles of the supporting capacity are connected to a power battery of the locomotive power battery system. A locomotive microcomputer controls an excitation drive module of the diesel generator set 2 according to information provided by a driver controller. Two diesel generator sets having different powers are used for the power source. The diesel generator set 1 having a low power operates at a rated power for a long time, and the diesel generator set 2 having a high power are started only when a fault occurs to the locomotive power battery system, or a short distance traction operation or a large load switching traction operation is executed. The power source is low emission and environmentally friendly.
