[Problem] To provide: a silicon oxide-coated iron powder that has a small particle diameter, is able to achieve a high μ' in a high frequency band, and exhibits favorable heat resistance; and a manufacturing method therefor. [Solution] A silicon oxide-coated iron powder that is highly insulative and has a high μ' in a high frequency band is obtained by: adding a silicon alkoxide to a slurry obtained by dispersing, in a solvent mixture containing an organic substance and 1-40 mass% of water, an iron powder comprising iron particles having an average particle diameter of 0.25-0.80 μm and an average axis ratio of at most 1.5; and performing silicon oxide coating by adding to the slurry a hydrolysis catalyst of said silicon alkoxide.
