Disclosed are a method for upmixing a stereo audio as a binaural audio and an apparatus therefor. A method for upmixing a stereo audio as a binaural audio, according to one embodiment of the present invention, comprises the steps of: generating a binaural output by performing binaural encoding on the basis of a high-pitched sound range and a low-pitched sound range which are separated from a stereo signal; generating a wide stereo output by performing stereo wide processing on the basis of a middle-pitched sound range separated from the stereo signal; and generating an up-mixed stereo output by mixing the stereo signal, the binaural output and the wide stereo output.
