The image service running on one of the nodes in the cloud will maintain a hash table with unique label of the node or service on a node as the key and the value as the pointer to the disk image, virtual machine image, ISO image, executable or any binary in compressed format if required. Also along with the pointer to the image as the value in the hash table maintained in image service we can also store other metadata for the image like its version, compatibility, orchestration to launch a virtual machine instance or commands to launch various services with the image, etc.
