The present invention relates to a granular material with high absorption properties that can be used to absorb liquids and moisture from solid waste and that is obtained by processing natural raw materials such as cassava dough and sugar-cane bagasse. It provides high performance and high odor neutralization and absorption capacity, and the waste is held in stable granular material that is easy to handle. It is non-toxic, made of renewable components, and is not harmful to the health of animals or handlers. It is practical, hygienic and easy to handle. The granular material obtained can be used as "cat litter" for use with pets. A method for producing the granular material is also described.
