This disclosure relates to improving performance in devices that implement standalone global navigation satellite system (GNSS) receivers. In particular, a GNSS-enabled mobile device can obtain positioning data from one or more non-satellite sources and determine the satellite signal quality in the environment. Thus, in response to determining that the environment surrounding the GNSS-enabled mobile device is a weak satellite signal environment, the GNSS-enabled mobile device may send the positioning data obtained from the one or more non-satellite sources to a device So that the performance in a device implementing a stand-alone GNSS receiver can be improved in poor satellite signal environments.
