It is an object of the present invention to provide a novel carbazole compound which can be used as a transport layer, a host material, and a light emitting material of a light emitting element. There is provided a carbazole compound wherein the nitrogen of the carbazole group bonded at the 3-position of the carbazole skeleton at the 4-position of the dibenzofuran skeleton or the dibenzothiophene skeleton is bonded via the phenylene group to the benzimidazole skeleton. The carbazole compound has good carrier transportability and can be suitably used as a material for a light emitting device or an organic semiconductor material.
