The present invention relates to a method for recovering high purity zinc oxide from zinc-byproducts containing iron. The crude zinc oxide derived from zinc-byproduct containing iron obtained from electric furnace steelmaking dusts are made into slurry to be choridizing-roasted after magnetization selection, or mixed with a chlorine source so that impurities containing iron are calcined as a form of iron chloride in a calcining furnace at a low temperature range to firstly remove Fe component, which is the main impurity in the crude zinc oxide. Through a post-treatment, zinc oxide having a purity of 99% or more is manufactured.
