A method for visually displaying the speech processing status is implemented in an electronic device. The electronic device includes at least an array of full color LEDs, one or more microphones, and a speaker. The electronic device processes audio inputs by collecting audio inputs from one or more microphones from an environment proximate to the electronic device, identifying audio inputs from a user in the environment, and / or responding to audio inputs. Then, among the plurality of predefined speech processing states, the processing state is determined, and for each of the full color LEDs, each predetermined LED illumination specification is determined in relation to the determined speech processing state. In accordance with the identified LED illumination specifications of the full color LEDs, the electronic device synchronizes the illumination of the array of full color LEDs to provide a visual pattern indicative of the determined speech processing state.
