The present invention relates to a material sorting device and a material sorting method based on a tray, wherein the material sorting device based on a tray comprises a product transport line for transporting a material provided with a barcode. The material sorting device based on a tray further comprises: a first mechanical arm and a first material insertion platform for transporting a material from the product transport line to the first material insertion platform; a material scan member in which the material transported by the first mechanical arm is scanned to read and record material information; and a sorting means and a plurality of different types of sorting trays, configured to classify the material in accordance with scan information generated by the material scan member and insert the material into a sorting tray corresponding to the scan information. Therefore, the material sorting device and the material sorting method can realize an increase in processing efficiency.
