According to the present invention, provided is: a method for manufacturing dimethylamino propyl betaine, in which coco fatty acids are amidated with dimethylaminopropylamine in the presence of a catalyst selected from boron-based compounds, pretreated with a reducing agent selected from boron-based compounds after washing the same with water and drying thereof, and then quaternized to sodium monochloroacetate, thereby being able to manufacture dimethylamino propyl betaine with excellent color quality, color stability, and color durability, while having low content of unreacted impurities and side reaction impurities; and an amphoteric surfactant comprising the same.
