The present invention relates to a pharmaceutical composition for preventing or treating forgetfulness or memory disorder containing an ulmi cortex extract as an active component. Specifically, the present invention relates to: a health functional food composition for preventing or alleviating forgetfulness or memory disorder containing the ulmi cortex extract as the active component; a health functional food composition for improving learning, a cognitive function, or a memory; and a method for preventing or treating forgetfulness or memory disorder comprising a step of administering a composition containing the ulmi cortex extract as the active component to a subject other than a human. The composition of the present invention promotes and improves learning or a memory, and can be usefully used as the pharmaceutical composition and the health functional food for preventing and treating forgetfulness or memory disorder due to various brain-nervous system abnormalities.
