Provided is a user authentication method performed by a conversational AI agent system. The method comprises: obtaining user identification information; searching for user authentication data from a user database based on the user identification information, wherein the user database includes characteristic data of a user, and authentication data includes a question/answer list including one or more questions generated based on the characteristic data of the user included in the user database and one or more answers semantically associated with each of the questions; selecting one question of the searched question/answer list to provide the question to a user terminal; receiving an answer for the question provided from the user terminal; and performing user authentication based on the received answer.;COPYRIGHT KIPO 2019
