Disclosed are compounds and compositions wherein the drug unit or moiety is linked to the targeted ligand unit via a self-stabilizing linker unit that is released at the targeted site of action. Methods of treating diseases characterized by targeted abnormal cells, such as cancer or autoimmune diseases, using the compounds and compositions of the present invention are also disclosed.
