The present invention provides compositions and methods for detecting or determining the severity of myasthenia gravis in a subject. The present invention also provides compositions and methods for preventing or treating myasthenia gravis in a subject. In some embodiments, the composition is a peptide that binds to a monoclonal antibody that binds to the primary immunogenic region of the acetylcholine receptor and, in some cases, blocks the pathogenic antibody binding site. In another embodiment, the peptide further comprises an antibody heavy chain fragment. Also provided is a kit for detecting, determining, preventing or treating the severity of myasthenia gravis.
