The present invention relates to a composition for preventing or treating colitis and a health functional food for preventing or alleviating colitis which contain an extract of Bombycis corpus. According to the present invention, in a colitis patient, it is possible to protect mucous membrane tissues, increase antioxidant enzyme activity, decrease IL-1β, IL-6, and TNF-α cytokine levels in a serum, decrease the number of WBCs, neutrophils, and lymphocytes by using the extract of Bombycis corpus. Therefore, it is expected to be useful in various related applications by being implemented with a natural product-based pharmaceutical composition and an auxiliary product for treating and alleviating colitis.
