PHARMACEUTICAL COMPOSITION COMPRISING THE SPROUT EXTRACTS OF ZINGIBER OFFICINALE AS AN EFFECTIVE COMPONENT FOR PREVENTION OR TREATMENT OF DIABETES AND HEALTH FUNCTIONAL FOOD COMPRISING THE SAME

The present invention relates to a composition of antidiabetic activity containing ginger sprout extract as an active ingredient and, more specifically, to a pharmaceutical and functional food composition of antidiabetic activity with excellent inhibitory activity of starch decomposition enzymes, which includes the ethanol extract of ginger sprouts, hexane fraction thereof, ethyl acetate fraction, or butanol fraction. The ginger sprout extract of the present invention can be used in medicine and food functional food to prevent or relieve diabetes by showing antidiabetic activity caused by the excellent inhibitory activity of starch decomposition enzymes. Moreover, the ginger sprout extract of the present invention can be used beneficially in a pharmaceutical industry and a food industry by being processed in various forms such as liquid, cream, powder, ring, and pill since heat stability is excellent and the loss of the inhibitory activity of starch decomposition enzymes does not appear in plasma and under an acid condition of pH 2. The present invention is also able to contribute to the reuse of insoluble resources and environment conservation by using sprouts generated during ginger storage.
