The present invention relates to a low complexity sphere decoding receiver and method for generalized spatial modulation (GSM). According to the present invention, a search process is terminated early according to a proposed transmitter antenna combination (TAC) segmentation technique, computational complexity may decrease as a transmission antenna layer is aligned to search from a layer with a highest reliability, and the performance of a sphere decoding (SD) technique for GSM may be maintained while reducing the computational complexity by applying the TAC segmentation and layer ordering based on results of a minimum mean square error (MMSE) filter on an incoming signal.
