The present invention relates to an image classification and search apparatus and a method thereof and, more specifically, to an apparatus capable of searching for an index and enabling a low-performance device to extract an index for search from an image at a high speed, and a method thereof. According to the present invention, the method includes the following steps of: receiving a multichannel image; obtaining a plurality of sub-band areas by converting at least one channel of the image into wavelets; generating an energy vector by using the most superior one of the quantized energy levels of at least one of the sub-band areas as a component; obtaining a plurality of spatial areas by spatially dividing one channel of the image stage by stage; and generating a chroma vector by using a chroma key which is a label of a high-chroma one of the quantized colors for at least one of the spatial areas.
